That Street Runs BOTH Ways, Not Just One
So I was reading an article today about a kid named "Patty" that wanted to play a certain sport in highschool. Patty ran home exitedly to tell mom that they had finally found a sport. When dad was informed, he was confused why Patty would want to play that sport, but he did not see anything wrong with it. When patty takes the field with the team, there are a lot of hecklers and people yelling obsentites. People say how patty does not deseave to be there and should not be allowed to be on the team. See, the thing is that Patty is a different sex then the rest of the team. Nonetheless none of all of Patty's teamates are in favor of Patty staying on the team. Patty earned a spot for steller play in the tryouts, so they figure Patty desearves to be there. So what sport am I referring to? A Female Patricia trying to play boy's football?
Try again. It is a male Patrick wanting to play girl's Field Hockey. There are many coaches of female field hockey who are strongly agianst this. They claim that boys will irrecoqivly change the game and prevent any girls from playing. I think this is a bunch of bullshit. I say that anyone should be allowed to play whatever sport they want that is offered by the school. If there is no boy's field hockey team due to funding, then there the boy should be able to play on the girls team. I think the same is true for the other side as well. If a girl wants to play football and there is no girl's team, she should have the oppertunity. I am not saying that the boy should be automatically placed on the team, I am saying he should be given the oppertunity to try out and earn his way on(just like the girl teammates) Just like the girl should be given t he oppertunity to earn her way on the team(just like the boy teamates).
The real issue here though is not boys on girls teams, but a much larger problem in America, and that is reverse discrimination. See, we are taught in schools that discrimination is wrong(and it is). However, we are also taught that it is ok to discriminate agianst a group as long as it helps another. The idea is that if we discriminate against an overrepresented group, then the underrepresented group will get an oppertunity. These people believe that discrimiantion is justified in this manner.
However, all discrimination is wrong. I do not understand how anyone can support discrimination. If a person loses an oppertunity due to discrimination of any kind, that is wrong. If a person loses a job becuase of discrimination that is wrong. Hiring a person based on what group they belong to and not soley based on their skills is wrong.
Face the facts: Discrimination of any kind is wrong. If a boy wants an oppertunity to play a girl's sport: LET HIM! If a girl wants an oppertunity to play a boy's sport: LET HER! The thing is though, we will never solve this issue until we finally admit that discrimination is wrong. We are a far way from doing that and that is a shame. We should LEARN from the mistakes of the past. Discrimination in our nation's past was an unfortunate part of our history. Let's learn from it and move forward. People say that we have come along way since those days. I am not sure how far we have really come. In essence discrimination is still here, except in this case it is pointing the other way.
